Dr. Jennifer Melfi is Tony Soprano’s Psychiatrist. He went to see her when he realizes that he suffers from panic attacks. Dr Melfi knows a lot of things about Tony that he never even dare tell anyone else, she may be the person closest to truly understanding Tony. Dr. Melfi tried her best to help Tony deal with his issues. He shows himself as very unpredictable, sometimes responsive, other times violent or frustrated with the pace of his treatment. His mood swings can turn from being playful to being cold and distant.

Dr. Melfi is also shown as being thrilled of helping a gangster and tries to resist having romantic thoughts about Tony. She resists Tony’s advances and says she wants to keep their relationship strictly professional, though she is simultaneously attracted and appalled by Tony’s behavior toward her.

The role of Dr. Jennifer Melfi is played by Lorraine Bracco. Lorraine was born on October 2, 1954 on Brooklyn, New York. In her earlier career, she became a fashion model for Jean-Paul Gaultier. She was best known for her role as mobster wife Karen Hill in Goodfellas, which earned her an Academy Award Nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
