Season five starts with Tony Blundetto being released in prison, together with his mob buddies. The power struggle begins between Johnny Sack and Carmine Jr. following Carmine’s early and unexpected demise.
Blundetto avoiding to go back in an organized crime, ends up killing the bro of Phil, as Jonny Sack demands from Tony to turn him in. Tony decides to kill Blundetto, than having him tortured.

Tony and Carmela has not reconciled, as Tony lives with Artie Bucco, his friend who was also left by his wife. Carmela is left with A.J. as the authority figure of Soprano and her rules gets into the nerves of his son which made him resent his mom. Later on, she allows her son to live with his father.

Carmela started off with a relationship with Robert Weigler, A.J’s school guidance counselor. Later on, Weigher stops the whole affair, when later on, he finds himself being manipulated to manipulate A.J.’s grades. Later on, Carmela and Tony decided to mend their relationship, and reconciles. Tony promised to be discreet, and paid for the real estate Carmela wants to develop.
